Obon Festival, Me Too!

I was there too!  I had a name badge on and everything.  I was working the Obon Festival event and had to do my sketching when I could, which was about 24 hours before the rest of the sketchers showed up and after I had the venue set up.

Wasn't a lot, but it made me happy to do something.  I'm the one that does signs.  A Japanese American festival is a fabulous place to draw signs.  The one on the left with the light blue background has something to do with one of the kids' games.  The Gold Fish Game sign is definitely a kid game sign.  The dark blue background one came from the front of the Japanese American Cultural Center.  No idea what it says - hope it isn't "do not draw this sign..."

Obon Festival, Vista, California

The Obon Festival was held this weekend at the Vista Buddhist Temple. Several Urban Sketchers met to draw the activities and had a challenge with the rapidly moving Taiko Drummers from UC Irvine. One of our urban sketchers, Carol Bonomo  was our hostess and event coordinator of the festival. Rachel Kopel, another urban sketcher gave demonstrations on Etegami in the cultural center.

Leo Carrillo Ranch, Carlsbad, CA

The San Diego Urban Sketchers Meetup group met at the Leo Carrillo Ranch today.
This ranch is a former working ranchero once owned by Leo Carrillo, an actor who appeared in the tv series Cisco Kid. We had the chance to sketch any adobe buildings, windmills and about 2 dozen peacocks roaming the grounds.

Leo Carillo Historic Ranch

The San Diego Urban Sketchers descended on Leo Carillo Historic Ranch in Carlsbad, CA. today.  Carillo was a famous actor of the 1950s who played Pancho, sidekick to the Cisco Kid.  The Ranch (a city park now) was his home and is carefully constructed to conform to the old California ranchos -- complete with the wild peacocks, which are ALL over the place.

Lake San Marcos, California

The San Deigo Urban Sketchers MeetUp group met at Lake San Marcos today. It was quiet and peaceful sketching the lake as the ducks and swans played in the water in front of us. There was a great view of houses and boats surrounded by palm trees across the lake .
