Main Street Vista, Vista Village - San Diego Urban Sketchers

The first minute of this video shows the San Diego Urban Sketchers and their sketches created on Main Street, Vista, CA. The second part shows street art on and around Main Street.

Vista Village

I wasn't able to get to the Zoo today, so I stayed local and sketched around Vista Village.

Avo Theater and Curbside Cafe.

Clock across the street from the locks (of love?). There are some really neat public sculptures in the area too.

Rancho Guajome Adobe- Vista, CA

I grew up in the more central part of San Diego County, so everything I knew of anything "historic" was a 20 minute drive south to Old Town. However, when we returned to San Diego county a few years ago, I was thrilled to discover historic buildings sprinkled throughout north county. Two days ago, I went up to Rancho Guajome Adobe, located in Vista.

I had no idea that this 112 acre Rancho even existed, but it is part of the San Diego County Park system. It was built in 1852 and is a traditional Spanish-Mexican Colonial style hacienda.

Only the grounds were open, as I came on a Monday.

The Alley Art Festival in Vista, September 13, 2014

I have been made aware of an event the San Diego Urban Sketchers might be interested in. I will not attend due to a Los Angeles Museum art "field trip" I will be on. Here is the Information: The Alley Arts Festival in Vista will be held on Saturday, September 13th. There are lots of activities planned in Vista’s historic downtown, so there would be a variety of things/people/activities to sketch. One of our Urban Sketchers, Kim Cruz will have a booth with her husband. More details about the festival follow below.

Rancho Buena Vista Adobe, Vista, California

Today the http://www.meetup.com/San-Diego-Urban-Sketchers/ group met at the Rancho Buena Vista Adobe in Vista. Rancho Buena Vista is the best-preserved of the fabled land-grant ranchos. It looks much as it did over 150 years ago.

Obon Festival, Vista, California

The Obon Festival was held this weekend at the Vista Buddhist Temple. Several Urban Sketchers met to draw the activities and had a challenge with the rapidly moving Taiko Drummers from UC Irvine. One of our urban sketchers, Carol Bonomo  was our hostess and event coordinator of the festival. Rachel Kopel, another urban sketcher gave demonstrations on Etegami in the cultural center.
