Today the San Diego Urban Sketchers enjoyed the quite of the Greenwood Mortuary, sitting in the shade drawing statues. Rachel Kopel, Kypris, and Lydia Velarde.

Lake San Marcos, California

The San Deigo Urban Sketchers MeetUp group met at Lake San Marcos today. It was quiet and peaceful sketching the lake as the ducks and swans played in the water in front of us. There was a great view of houses and boats surrounded by palm trees across the lake .

San Diego County Fair, 2013, "Game On!"

The San Diego County Fair is a big deal in this part of the world, even though the old timers (including myself) will forever call it the Del Mar Fair.  Lydia and I BOTH have work in the fair this year - Lydia has two paintings in Fine Art and I have two photographic images in the photo show.

But everybody goes for the food (chocolate covered bacon!), the racing pigs, the rides, the sights.  I was concerned about trying to draw but I forget - when you're traveling with a photographer, he will ALWAYS be standing somewhere, immovable, trying to capture the light at just the right angle in his camera, and you will have plenty of time to draw the signs and pig racing and palm readers...

This is a sketch of Bonnies Happy Look a little shop in Idyllwild. I got to sketch a little while my friends were exploring some nifty little shops in town. Idyllwild is located in the San Jacinto Mountains of Southern California.
